One of those things that you can't prevent and can't take medicines to make it go away. It is good to be back home in Haiti. Though I am not my usual self. I am constantly tired, sore, and have bruises that come at random from being extra clumsy. Please keep me in your prayers.

You there?!?!
Yes, I am. It has been a crazy couple of weeks since my last post. Since the earthquake I had been battling being sick on and off. We thought it was the stress and chaos that has become our lives. However, it got to the point where we were getting a little nervous one night when it was extra bad. With the miscarriage and fevers that continued to come for 5 weeks and now I was not able to keep down things, we decided to be cautious and come to the States. I ended up being in the hospital for almost a week. Unfortunately, I don't remember much of that week. Good drugs and a lot of sleep. I know that I freaked my family and doctors out a lot with my blood platelets dropping. Complications with my miscarriage were the first things they checked. However, nothing was wrong. No one knew why I continued having the odd symptoms and I had a lot of tests done. Finally after a few days I was able to eat again and the fevers stopped spiking. It wasn't until several days after I was discharged that my illness had a name. Dengue Fever.

Leann - I know of what you speak.
I had Dengue Fever after returning from Haiti in 1977--drs could not diagnose it in Pennsylvania. An article appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer about it and then more testing was done and that's what I had. You will be tired, bones will ache and you will feel run-down for a while, so please don't jump back into the work there at the pace you were going. Give yourself time to heal and recover. Take it easy--Danny and the kids need a healthy Mama, so you must give it time.
Prayers and Blessings,

I am praying that you will begin feeling better soon. Take care of yourself so you can take care of the little ones who depend on you. My son is coming to Haiti next week on a mission trip with the Florida Baptist Children's Home. He will be in northeast Haiti near the DR border. I will tell him to bring lots of bug spray!
